149 | To Jeffery Amherst

    Boston Aug 23. 1762

    Sr

I wrote to you last fryday580 advising that Lord Colville with the Northumberland Gosport & King George sailed from Halifax on the 10th inst to join the Antelope & Sirene at Placentia & thence proceed to St Johns. And as It seemed Very necessary that you should know this as soon as possible, I engaged Mr Hancock to dispatch it by express. Since this I received your last letter.581

I have nothing now left, but to desire your order for releasing Ichabod Wright an Indian Mulatto enlisted at the Castle & sent to Quebec. I think there is a proof of his being born a Slave which would satisfy a Jury, in case an Action was brought against the Officer who inlisted him, as is threaten’d.582 The order should go by the Vessel which is to bring him away: for if he has notice of it he will go off. Another Man is to be put in his stead for the same bounty &c. Col Robinson583 may transact this business with Mr Goldthwait.

I am, with great regard, Sr Your most obedient & most humble Servant

    Fra. Bernard

    His Excellency Sr Jeffry Amherst.
