NOTES TO INDEX
In this index an attempt has been made to list every name mentioned in the records from pages 3 through 403, but certain caveats are relevant. It is impossible to be certain when a father is succeeded by his son of the same name—as vestryman, as pewholder, as purveyor of merchandise. Similarly variant spellings may indicate one person at different times at the hand of different scribes, or two completely independent individuals. Dates have been inserted when they seem helpful as guideposts.
Subscribers to the Widows and Orphans Fund (pages 271–272); persons making quarterly payments of taxes on pews (pages 365–368); and subscribers to the new church building (pages 371–372) have not been indexed.
Appendix A has been indexed for the separate account of individuals from pages 440 to 469, but not for the myriad names of tradesmen and others in the general accounts of pages 410–440, nor for the subscribers to the organ, pages 471–473.
Appendix B, William Price’s will, Appendix C, accounts of the Greene Foundation, and Appendix D, a funeral sermon, have not been indexed.
