422 | From Andrew Oliver

    Boston 19 Decemr: 1765

    Sir

Observing in the Massachusetts Gazette published today, some Account of my Resignation on the 17th. I beg leave to observe to your Excellency, that the Message I sent to my Friends on that day, was, to meet me at Mr. Avery’s House, who was the Gentleman I intended in my Narrative: and that I there met about thirty Gentlemen, which is all that I know, or believe to have come at my Request.

I would further acquaint your Excellency that the whole of the short Speech said to have been made by me after my Declaration was read and sworn ^to^, was in these precise Words and no others; and I dare say your Excellency will readily believe Me.

    Gentmn.

I shall always think myself very happy, when it shall lye in my power to serve this People.1

I am Sir Your Excellencys most obedt huml Servt.

    And Oliver

    His Excelly Govr. Bernard.
