    I have this day received yours of Augst: 28th:2 & am very glad you have made the representation to the Lords of the Treasury which you have mentioned as it will give me an opportunity to free myself from the difficultys I have laboured under for some time in endeavouring to make my Obedience to the orders of my Superiors & to the dictates of my own sense of my duty reconcilable with the desire I have had to maintain a friendly intercourse with you.
